Brief description of study

The research study is being done to look at the effect of sleep apnea surgery on different measures of
cardiovascular (heart) function in people with obstructive sleep apnea.

Detailed description of study

If you agree to join the study, you will be asked to complete the following research procedures:
1. Have an at-home sleep test.
2. Wear a blood pressure monitor for a full day, before and after your surgery.
3. Let the researchers collect information from your medical record.

In addition to your planned surgery and standard medical care, we are asking you to do an
extra home sleep test and 2 sets of blood pressure testing. We will also look in your medical record and collect information such as your age, sex, race, height, weight, whether you have been diagnosed with high blood pressure or diabetes, and the results of your standard care sleep test and clinical follow-up visits.

Your participation would last for about 8 months.

Eligibility of study

You may be eligible for this study if you meet the following criteria:

  • Conditions: Sleep Apnea,Obstructive Sleep Apnea,OSA,Pharyngeal Surgery,Skeletal Surgery
  • Age: 18 years - 90 years
  • Gender: All

Inclusion criteria:  All patients are English-speaking, greater than 18 years old, and able to give informed consent.  All patients will be scheduled or plan to undergo pharyngeal or skeletal surgery to improve obstructive sleep apnea.
 
Exclusion criteria: sustained non-sinus cardiac arrhythmias, short acting nitrates less than 3 hours before WatchPAT test, permanent pacemaker, active alpha-blocker usage, regular users of CPAP or oral appliance (defined as > 5 nights per week).
