Brief description of study
We are inviting you to take part in a research study. Research is a way of gaining new knowledge. A person who participates in a research study is called a “participant.” This research study is evaluating ways to provide palliative care to patients who have recently been diagnosed with lung cancer. Palliative care is a medical specialty focused on lessening (or “palliating”) patients’ symptoms and helping patients and their families cope with a serious illness.
It is expected that about 480 people will take part in this research study. This study will take place at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and Duke Cancer Center. The HUP site plans to enroll 160 participants.
An institution that is supporting a research study either by giving money or supplying something that is important for the research is called the “sponsor.” The sponsor of this study is Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), which is supporting this research study by providing funding.
